Importing a car: what to check before you commit
A vehicle listing is the start of a review. Before placing an order, agree the vehicle, seller, service scope, destination and documented costs.
1. Define your search
Specify the model, budget, intended use and destination country. Tell us whether you are buying privately or for a business. Vehicle availability must be reconfirmed.
2. Review the vehicle and seller
Match the VIN and available documents, review the listing and seller, and identify the sources and limits of history information. Missing records do not prove that a vehicle has no damage or mileage issues.
3. Separate written assessment from physical inspection
The €99 assessment, VAT included, provides research and a written advisory report for an agreed scope. A physical inspection, diagnostic scan, paint measurements or paid third-party report is separately agreed and quoted.
4. Request a destination-specific cost review
Source country, destination, seller invoice, buyer status, vehicle specifications and applicable requirements affect the cost. EU purchases and imports from outside the EU do not follow one universal tax formula. Ask for a breakdown of the vehicle price, applicable taxes, transport, professional fees and registration requirements, identifying confirmed amounts and outstanding items.
5. Agree the purchase and payment process
Verify the beneficiary and payment instructions through established contact channels. Your OK does not reserve a vehicle. Purchase proceeds within five days of your OK while the vehicle remains available. If it becomes unavailable, sourcing and all vehicle-specific checks restart for another car with a new OK.
6. Confirm transport and handover
Confirm the actual carrier, insurance scope, documents and expected timing. A website enquiry does not book transport or guarantee delivery.
